MICROPOLIS

La populaire exposition Micropolis à la galerie Artist Proof de Calgary s'est terminée le 31 juillet dernier. Nous y présentions une installation fabriquée à partir de sérigraphies et estampes numériques découpés en plus d'autres estampes récentes. Nous tenons à remercier le soutien financier du Conseil des Arts du Québec pour notre déplacement vers Calgary. Nous étions donc présents lors du vernissage et ce fut très agréable de rencontrer la communauté artistique locale. Nous allons poursuivre ce projet en y ajoutant des éléments vidéographiques et sonores. Nous en présenterons une seconde version éventuellement. Our exhibition in Artist Proof Gallery (Calgary) ended on July 31st. We were happy to meet the artistic community of local printers. Québec Council of the Arts supported us with a travel grant to attend our opening. The show was greatly appreciated and really well attended. We will continue this installation project shown below in order to show a second version. We want to enlarge the peice, add a soundtrack and video to it. It was very interesting and fun to create so we will enjoy improving it. Thanks a lot to Christie and all the board members of the Alberta Printmakers Association!

Exposition à la galerie Artist Proof, Calgary, juillet 2010

Mon exposition en duo avec Allison Moore à la galerie Artist Proof de Calgary (Alberta)
a débuté cette semaine. C'est l'occasion de voir l'installation que nous avons créer à partir
d'estampes ces derniers mois lors de résidences à Open Studio (Toronto) et Engramme (Québec). Il s'agit d'une première version de ce projet intitulé Micropolis qui représente une artère commerciale d'une métropole fictive. Nous allons ajouter des vidéos et une ambiance sonore lors de la prochaine présentation.

Le vernissage aura lieu vendredi prochain le 16 juillet en soirée et je serai là-bas avec Allison pour présenter l'exposition. Au plaisir de vous y rencontrer!

MICROPOLIS by Allison Moore and Arthur Desmarteaux

The Artist Proof Gallery is pleased to present Montreal artistic duo Allison Moore and Arthur Desmarteaux’s playful collaborative exhibition, Micropolis.

Featuring uncanny characters and mythological creatures who exist as hybrids of fantasy and reality, Moore and Desmarteaux’s mixed media installation creates a fantastical urban space for visitors to discover within the gallery. Exploring themes of microbiology, mutation, perception and urbanity, Micropolis creates an assimilated reality that is simultaneously amusing and insightful, familiar and strange, real and imagined.

July 7 – 31, 2010

Opening Reception: Friday, July 16, 6:30 – 8:30 pm

Résidence à l'atelier Engramme (Québec)

Moi et Allison Moore avons beaucoup apprécié notre séjour à l'Atelier Engramme où nous faisions de la sérigraphie intensivement. Nous avons continué le projet que nous avions commencé au mois de mars à Open Studio (Toronto) Nous créons présentement une maquette qui représentera une rue commerciale d'une métropole fictive. Nous découpons nos sérigraphies sur cartons pour les agencer dans l'espace. Nous désirons ajouter une ambiance sonore à cette oeuvre et nous allons y intégrer des photographies. Elle sera présentée en première à la Galerie Artist Proof (Calgary) en juillet prochain. Le vernissage aura lieu le 16 juillet.

Nous remercions le personnel et les membres de l'atelier pour leur précieux soutien tout au long du projet. Nous sommes heureux d'avoir été invités à imprimer chez Engramme. Ce fut un grand plaisir de rencontrer le collectif d'artistes qui y oeuvre.

Me and Allison had a great time at Engramme in Québec City where we continued the project we started earlier this Spring at Open Studio in Toronto. We are currently doing a sculptural peice with our cut-out silkscreens on cardboard and digital prints. We eventually want to add a soundtrack and video to this installation. We will be showing a first version of this project at Artist Proof Gallery in Calgary next July. The Opening reception will take place on July 16th.

We are thankful to the members of Engramme who helped us to make our peice.

Résidence à Open Studio Toronto : du 15 au 29 mars 2010

Notre résidence s'est bien déroulée et nous avons pu commencer un projet d'installation qui sera présenté en juillet à la galerie Artist Proof de Calgary en plus de terminer avec succès l'édition d'une sérigraphie inspirée de l'oeuvre de Miro. Les équipements disponibles nous ont permis de créer cette oeuvre de plus grande dimension qu'à l'habitude.
Nous avons été agréablement reçus par les employés et les artistes d'Open Studio. Nous tenons à remercier le personnel de Graff pour leur précieuse aide, Jill, Heather et Deryl à Open Studio pour leur accueil chaleureux et leurs conseils, Frédéric & Sylvia pour leur hospitalité ainsi que le Conseil des Arts du Canada qui a soutenu notre projet. Ce fut une belle expérience qui a portée fruit et nous vous recommandons de visiter ce grand atelier situé en plein centre-ville dans un édifice à vocation culturel : Le 401 Richmond.
Nous allons éventuellement retourner à Toronto pour une exposition à la galerie Glendon de l'Université York.

We had a great time in Open Studio and we were able to successfully create editions of screenprints which will be exhibited in an installation form at Artist Proof Gallery in Calgary this July. We also made a larger print inspired by the works of Joan Miro. It was a pleasure to meet all the artists at the studio and we want to thank them for inviting and helping us through the project. We also want to thank Graff for their support, Frédéric & Sylvia who invited us in their appartment and Canada Council of the Arts who supported our project. It was a great experience and we are glad we visited Open Studio. I will post pictures of the prints we produced later on my site.
